Widget Page Templates

The Widget page provides learners and other users with a dashboard of information and links to relevant features.  It provides a single area for users to access pre-created widgets. You have the ability to customize Widget pages by creating templates.  This allows you to configure the Widget page with content that is meaningful to different types of users. The templates can be assigned to skins, roles and organizations.

To manage widget page templates, you must have unrestricted access to the Widget Page Manager feature.

Create a Template

To create a widget page template

  1. Go to Manage Center > System > General Settings > Widget Page Manager.
  2. Click + Create new template.
  3. In the Template Name field, enter the name for the template.
  4. In the Sections field, select the number of sections for the page.  You can have up to three.
  5. In each section, select an option from the Columns field to determine the number of columns in the section. You can have up to three and have various options for how to size the columns.
  6. Place the widgets in the section.
  • The widget library is displayed on the right. To place a widget in a section/column, simply drag it from the widget library to the section/column. Repeat this process until you have placed all widgets.
  • To remove a widget click its X link.
  1. To preview the widget page, click Preview.
  2. Click Save.

Widget page templates can be assigned to skins, system roles and organizations. For additional information about associating templates with these objects, please see the relevant article: Skins, Create and Manage Roles, Organization Maintenance.

The order of precedence for widget page templates is Organization > Role > Skin.  For example, if a user's organization, role and skin each have different templates assigned, the user would see the organization template on the widget page.

Delete a Template

On the Widget Page Manager page, locate the appropriate template. Click the action menu and select Delete.

Templates that are assigned to skins, roles or organizations cannot be deleted. The action menu will be grayed out and not accessible.
