News Articles You can configure news articles to display in the News fly-out on the home page, on the login page, in Knowledge Centers, in the Career Development Center, and in the News widget on the widget page. For example, you may want to create news articles to distribute non-critical announcements, files, newsletters, course materials, information for new employees, etc.News articles can be configured to show to all users, or target a specific audience. You can set the dates for when the news article should be displayed, and configure it to be automatically deleted on a specific date.To configure categories and create news articles, your role must have access to the Communicate Menu feature.Manage News CategoriesYou can configure news categories to help organize news articles for different purposes. Create a CategoryGo to Manage Center > Communicate > News Manager > News Category Configuration.Enter a name for the category in the New Name: field.Click Add.Configure Category PermissionsBe sure the appropriate category is selected in the News Category Name field and click the Permissions button.Read-only allows the user to view and use the category to create news articles.Unrestricted additionally allows the user to update, delete and set permissions for the category.Rename a CategorySelect the category in the New Category Name field. Overwrite the name in the New Name: field.Click Update selection.Delete a CategoryBe sure the appropriate category is selected in the News Category Name field and click the Delete button.Categories that are in use can't be deleted.Create and Manage News ArticlesCreate an ArticleGo to Manage Center > Communicate > News Manager > News Articles.Click + Create News Article.Enter the news article properties. Use the table below for guidance:FieldDescriptionExpiration DateThis field works in combination with the Display Status. When you set the Display Status to Automatically Show Until Expiration, you can specify expiration date. By default, the expiry date will be one month from the date of creation. Click the delete icon and then click the calendar icon to select a different expiry date for the news article.Display StatusHere, you can choose to automatically display the article until the expiration date or to not display it automatically at all.Display FormatSelect how the article will display (headline and teaser, headline only, etc.)News CategorySelect the category for the article.Display OrderEnter a number between 1-100 for the display order. The higher the number, the higher up in the list of items an article is shown.LanguageYou can assign multiple languages or a specific language to an article. When a user with a preferred language opens the News panel on the home page, any articles that have a language bundle matching their preferred language are shown in that language. If a news article doesn't have a language bundle matching the user's preferred language, the LMS can select a more generic version of the language; for example, pt (Portuguese) instead of pt-BR (Brazilian Portuguese). If a more generic version of a language variant is also not available, the news article is shown in the primary language defined for the user's Logical Domain.Auto Delete DateThis field works in combination with the Automatically Delete property. When you set the article to delete automatically, you can specify the date for deletion. Click the calendar icon to select a date.Automatically DeleteHere, you will choose if the article will automatically delete or not delete at all.TitleEnter a title for the news article.Picture URLHere, you can include an image for the article. Click Select to choose an image from the Repository or enter the image URL directly.File Attachment URLHere, you can include attachments to the article. Click Select to choose a file from the Repository or enter the file URL directly.SurveyHere, you can include a survey exam to include with the article. Click Select to choose a survey. Click the Poll checkbox.TeaserEnter the teaser, which will display under the title.TextEnter and style the news item text.Click Save.Targeting Users for News ArticlesAfter you have saved a news article, you can set a target audience. In the appropriate news article, click the Target Audience tab.Select the values for the target audience. Options include:Organization unitsLearning modules (that is, only users that are enrolled in the selected module will get the news)Catalogs, so that users with access to the selected catalogs will get the news (for example, new courses available)Specific user attributesKnowledge Centers. You can select courses or learning programs so that the news article will show in their respective Knowledge Center's news area.Click Save.Set News Article PermissionsIn the appropriate news article, click the Target Audience tab. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Permissions. Read-only allows the user to view the article.Unrestricted additionally allows the user to update, delete and set permissions for the article.
