Instructors

Instructors are the LMS users who are qualified to teach specific learning modules.  Instructors can be created manually and assigned to learning modules.  They can also created automatically (auto-populated) based on current instructor assignments for all classroom training sessions.

Selecting an LMS user to be an instructor does not automatically enable that user to access instructor functions. A role must be assigned that grants the user access.  The LMS comes with an Instructor role out of the box that includes:

  • Ability to review session participants
  • Ability to maintain attendance sheets
  • Ability to share files in the Knowledge Center
  • Ability to enroll learners in sessions.

To manage instructors, your user role must have unrestricted access to the Class Resource Manager feature.

Create an Instructor

Use these steps to create an instructor and assign one or more courses manually.

  1. Go to Manage Center > Learning > Class Resource Manager > Instructors.
  2. Click + Create Instructor.
  3. In the Instructor field, click the browse button to search for and select a user.
  4. In the Course field, click the browse button to search for and select the course(s) the instructor is qualified to teach.
  5. Click Create

Auto-Populate Instructors

Use these steps to add users to your list of instructors based on current classroom training session assignments.

  1. Go to Manage Center > Learning > Class Resource Manager > Instructors.
  2. Click Auto-Populate. The LMS searches through all current course instructor assignments to populate the qualified course list for each instructor. The dialog updates to show the number of instructor qualifications that were added.
  3. Click OK.

Schedule Events for an Instructor

You can schedule events for instructors to book them for a specific date.  From here, you can also create a new module session, booking the instructor at the same time.

  1. Locate and open the appropriate user on the Instructors page Schedule tab.
  2. Click + Create Event.
  3. Configure the event.  For additional information about configuring and managing events, please see Events.

Manage an Instructor's Qualified Courses

You can edit the list of courses an instructor is qualified to teach, helping ensure the appropriate instructors are assigned to classroom sessions.

  1. Locate and open the appropriate user on the Instructors page
  2. Click the action menu and select Edit Qualified Courses. Take one of the following actions.:
  • To add a qualified course for the instructor, click + Add Qualified Course.
  • To delete a course from the list, click the action menu and select Delete

If you remove all qualified courses for an instructor, that user will be removed from the instructor list.
