Content Server Management

If your LMS uses content servers outside of the LMS to provide faster or more local access to course content, you can register their details in the Content Server Configuration page.

The LMS uses the following rules to find a suitable content server for each user:

  • If the course's launch URL is an absolute URL, the course is launched from that URL.
  • If the user's IP address matches the IP address range configured for a content server, the course is launched from that content server.
  • If a user has a specific content server selected in their profile, the course is launched from it.
  • If the user's IP address does not match any content servers, and they do not have a content server selected in their profile, the course is launched from the LMS server.

This article addresses linking to a content server and configuring IP address ranges in the LMS.  For detailed information about implementing content servers, please see the Content Server Configuration Guide in the PeopleFluent support site.

To manage content server configuration, your role must have unrestricted access to the Content Server Configuration feature.

Configure a Content Server

  1. Go to Manage Center > System > General Settings > Content Server Configuration.
  2. To add a new content server, click + Add New Content Server.
  3. In the Content Server Name field, enter the name.
  4. In the Content Server Description field, enter a description.
  5. Select the server scheme, which can be either HTTPS or HTTP.
  6. Enter the hostname or IP address of the content server.
  7. Click Save

Configure IP Address Ranges for a Content Server

Once you have created a content server and saved it, you can define its IP address range rules.

You cannot use wildcards (*) in IP address ranges.

  1. On the Content Server Configuration page, open the appropriate content server for editing.
  2. Click Add IP address rule.
  3. Enter values in the From IP Address field and To IP Address field.
  4. Click Save.

To delete an IP address, select it's checkbox and click Delete IP address rule.
